Way to go, Jamie Lynn Spears! What a great message to send to teenage girls! I haven’t seen a celebrity endorsement quite so alarming since Julia Roberts promoted prostitution as a viable career choice in Pretty Woman!

The highly popular movie, Juno was recently released to rave reviews. Although I do believe in free speech, I question the wisdom of releasing movies that make light of life’s most grueling experiences. I wonder about the motivation behind producing “fairy tale” movies aimed at teens. Teenaged girls don’t have the life experience to look at a movie like Juno and think, “This does not mirror real life?”. This is especially true when the movie’s star comes out with an announcement that she is about to carry out her screen character’s story in real life by having a baby at the age of 16. This is not the message that most mothers want their girls to get. Certainly, it is physically possible for 16 year olds to reproduce. But as a society we have evolved to the point that we value women enough to educate them in their teen years. Then we encourage them to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancy and STDs when they become sexually active.

Many girls have a palpable longing to reproduce in their teen years. They struggle against this overpowering urge because they can follow the logic that parents, teachers and society in general keep repeating. “Get an education under your belt and finish growing into adulthood before taking the irreversible step of procreation. Discover your self and make informed choices. Single parenthood is the hardest job you’ll ever have.” These messages are quickly disregarded as boring and stuffy when a girl’s favorite entertainer seems to be endorsing the opposite view. The message they get from movies like Juno is, “It’s fun to be pregnant. Go ahead and have a baby. It’s an opportunity to fulfill your biological imperative and all your friends will be green with envy, under their shocked facade. If you can’t keep the baby, you don’t have to! Don’t worry about how this whole physical and emotional experience will affect the rest of your life. Just DO it. Woo hoo!” But, in fairness most of the blame should not go to Jamie Lynn. She’s just a kid!

Nickelodeon is to blame for trying to bankroll the acceptability of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy. They saw that the movie got a good reaction from the general public. Then, knowing that the time was ripe, they allowed an article revealing Jamie’s pregnancy to OK magazine to be printed. How many girls will take the film’s none too subtle message to heart? Will we see a big bulge of little “Jamies” (of either sex) be registered for Kindergarten in the year 2013? Will Kindergarten teachers be tearing their hair out because, when they say ‘Jamie,” half of the class will respond, “Me?”

I remember trying to explain to a pregnant 15 year old girl that her life was about to change completely. She looked at me with bored, dismissive eyes and said: “Oh, I know all about it. The change will be nothing short of catastrophic! I’ve heard all about it from my friends.” Her reaction did nothing to reassure me that she really knew what she was getting into. Can anyone who has never experienced pregnancy and childbirth really know how it will affect them? Parenthood, once accomplished, will be a fact of life for you until they plant you. With all its joys it is a huge challenge, and not one to be taken with the starry eyed notion that you can expect to live happily ever after.

Jamie Lynn is rich enough that she will be able to delegate much of the child rearing to nannies and tutors. She is hardly representative of the average teenaged girl.

I think this movie should be mandatory viewing for high school girls. Also mandatory should be a no holds barred discussion following the viewing. I’d then like to see some less famous teenaged mothers from the local area tell their stories. This strategy wouldn’t undo all the damage done by Juno. But it would reveal the plain, unvarnished truth to the girls who prefer to wear rose colored glasses rather than deal with the harsh reality of pregnancy and young motherhood in today’s star-struck world.

Today a spokesperson for Jamie Lynn Spears cleared it all out by denying the rumors completely. Things don’t always work out as planned. We all take actions which are not very well thought out and many of our short term as well as long term plans get messed up as result. We who are teenagers as well as those of us who are past the teen age surely know what brains of 16 years old operate like. You who are with no sins throw the first stone, right?

I think we should all give Jamie Lynn Spears a break. Leave the girl alone (LOL, I’m really not trying to be another Chris Crocker and dub his “Leave Britney Alone” rant). Sure she’s a sister of Britney Spears so news of her pregnancy got blown out of proportion, but before you start to make fun and judge, look in the mirror. Or ask yourself – if she wasn’t Britney’s sister, would it still be such a big deal?

I’m not advocating teenage pregnancy, I don’t think it was smart of her to neglect safe sex practices, but there are so many teenage girls with big bellies and we are just picking up on one. Jamie Lynn is in a Hollywood spotlight so she’s taking all the heat for all teenage pregnancies.

Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy will be without doubt a life changing experience. It’s unfortunate she got herself into it, but let’s not judge her by one mistake. I know for myself, that it’s better to try to see a good in every person before you start jumping to conclusions. Jamie Lynn has a heavy burden to wear, last thing she needs right now is to be judged by people who don’t even know her. Who don’t know how it went, what exactly happened, what consequences led to her pregnancy…

None of us would enjoy being judged by others who don’t even know you. Let’s not do the same thing to Jamie Lynn. She’s not the first 16 years old who got pregnant and she won’t be the last. Would you be impressed if you were in her shoes and everyone would be barking at you? So why do you do it?

Nickelodeon show Zoey 101 in which Jamie Lynn Spears stars has aired its season finale last Friday and the numbers were off the hook. The publicity Jamie Lynn has been getting since news of her pregnancy hit the net has surely played a major role. Over 7 million people tuned into “Goodbye Zoey”, the episode that finalized season 3 of Zoey 101. This is more than double of what the show usually gets and statistically, this has been the most watched Zoey 101 episode ever. It was also the number 2 show on all cable television last week – only NBC’s game show 1 vs 100 scored more (8.4 million viewers). Even the infamous performance of Jamie Lynn’s big sister Britney at last August’s MTV Video Music Awards drew fewer people to watch (7.1 million viewers). The repeat of “Goodbye Zoey” on Saturday night recorded additional 3.9 million viewers.

The entire season 4 of Zoey 101 has already been filmed and is scheduled to be premiere in February. Despite countless rumors, Nickelodeon will launch it as planned.

She is leaving the Tangipahoa Parish School System Adult Education Center in Hammond, Louisiana, the place where convicts, drop-outs and teen-age single mothers go to get a GED – the loser version of a high school diploma.

Nickelodeon executives made themselves heard that they have no plans to pull Jamie Lynn Spears’ show Zoey 101 off the air despite her pregnancy. But the rumors regarding Jamie Lynn’s future as a star of Zoey 101 vary – will she get fired or not? Zoey 101 is aimed at tweens which might get them asking – how come Jamie Lynn is pregnant? – but it may not be such a big deal afterall. The third season of Zoey 101 will air as scheduled, on Friday January 4th.

Zoey 101 is the #1 TV series among tweens between the ages nine and fourteen. Along with millions of dollars it brings in DVD and merch sales, Zoey 101 is an extremely profitable franchise. Some other reports however claim that Zoey 101 TV show was cancelled and Jamie Lynn Spears unceremoniously booted because of her pregnancy scandal. That makes no sense to me but so far there hasn’t been any final word on future of the show. Filming of the fourth season of Zoey 101 has been completed, but Nickelodeon has yet to release the official statement regarding the future of the show after third season.

Famous pop star Britney first blamed their mom Lynne Spears for pregnancy of her little sister Jamie Lynn (16) and now she’s blaming herself. Britney claimed she tried to lead her little sister a good way and is really disappointed in her now that she got pregnant. Britney wanted Jamie Lynn to be a kid and put off adult activities like sex and boozing till later. Britney allegedly said:

Britney and her mom have been quite estranged ever since the family forced Britney to rehabilitation against her own will. According to reports, Britney felt left out of the family and it is possible she feels she will be left out being part of Jamie Lynn’s baby.

Jamie Lynn Spears is a good looking girl. I myself think it’s unfortunate she got knocked up at such early age. Pregnancy can ruin her body and she’s too young for that. She could have made it far but this definitely doesn’t help her at all.

It is said, that K-Fed (Kevin Federline, former husband of Britney Spears and father of her two sons Sean Preston and Jayden James) found out about Jamie Lynn Spears’ pregnancy before even Britney, who is her sister. OK! Magazine now reports that Jamie Lynn receives major support from K-Fed.

If the rumors are true, then I can’t help but wander what more does K-Fed wants from the Spears’. He seems to be enjoying taking Spears’ money for himself and he may be determined to grab at some more than just Britney’s funds. Smart boy I suppose, too bad for Jamie Lynn. She’s an expectant mother and needs a lot of support. That puts her in a state which is easy to compromise by false support provided to her with side intentions.
